When the Dream Lets Go
Bamboo rises here like a memory that has not yet decided whether to stay. Deep cobalt stalks and delicate leaves stand against creamy ochre, pale peach, and brushed aqua — a meeting of cool shadow and warm light, of structure and surrender.
In Chinese culture, bamboo carries the virtues of resilience, integrity, and humility. It bends without breaking, grows with quiet purpose, and keeps an open heart — xuxin — ready to receive the world. In this work, those meanings become less literal and more dreamlike: a vertical rhythm, a breath between forms, a feeling of remaining rooted while everything around you changes.
Traditional ink-like lines move through thick, tactile paint. Palette-knife marks gather and scrape across the surface; translucent edges glow as if lit from behind. The leaves appear and disappear in an ethereal haze, leaving the eye to complete what the brush has only begun.
Negative space is not emptiness here. It is the place where the dream dissolves — the quiet field between one thought and the next. Warm golds hold the composition open, while cobalt blue gives it a pulse.
Look long enough, and the painting begins to shift. The bamboo becomes a passage between presence and absence, inviting you to release what cannot remain and follow the light that comes after.
