From Austrian Engineer to Yunnan Artist —
Forging Spring in the Crackle

The Character

I was born in a small village in Austria, the oldest of three kids in a hardworking family. Books were my escape — there was no internet, no mobile phones, just the library in the nearby town and an endless hunger to understand how things are built, how the world works, what came before.

I was born with a "problem" - a synoptic mind. The kind that wants to see everything at once, and is curious how the world is running — how engineering talks to art, how music talks to philosophy, how the spiritual whispers to the practical.

My heart wanted nature and plants. My brain said: study something of value. So I became a mechanical engineer.

For decades, I lived the duality that defines me — a Gemini through and through. By day: successful engineer, entrepreneur, project manager on the forefront of Automotive innovation. By night: a soul hungry for music, art, the supernatural, the spiritual. I was running — efficiently, relentlessly — toward horizons of external achievement. I built a world where everything had its function.

But within that immaculate structure, a silent cold settled in.

The Explosion

The call of Asian culture and Buddhism caught me. The Yi Jing told me early: your future lies in the East. In 2018, I finally jumped.

I came to China as a Western rookie with low Mandarin skills, not knowing I would have to throw everything I knew away and learn from scratch. The sentence that guided me in the following years: "You don't start when you are ready — you get ready when you started."

So I jumped. And started swimming.

With the support of my Chinese wife and daughter, I began the slow, humbling work of unbuilding. It took years to unlearn the Western mindset and truly inhale Chinese culture. Covid slowed everything. But eventually, I was ready to explore the land I had chosen: Yunnan.

The New Normal

Kunming found me. A place where spring is not a season but the very essence of being. A landscape of mountain (山) and river (水) — the mountain standing in patient stillness, the river flowing with relentless grace. Within this landscape, my soul recognized its timeless quest: to bring creative inspiration into physical form.

Something new grew in me. A burning desire to balance my engineer's life with art. To express myself. To incorporate my new life into works that might inspire others.

The duality that once felt like division became my greatest strength.

My practice begins in the morning sunlight: Tai Chi, a moving meditation where my engineer's body learns the poetry of balance. In the slow arcs of Push Hands, I stopped fighting the winter's resistance. I learned its weight, its texture, its teaching. I made friends with the ghost who believed his only purpose was to run.

This is the ancient wisdom that called me: not to conquer the cold, but to partner with it.

The Fusion

My studio became the furnace where everything came together:

• With the ancient kilns of the East, I learned the sacred lesson of the crackled glaze (开片) — seeing supreme beauty in the elegant embrace of imperfection. The cracks which accidently happened were not seen as flaws. They are rivers where dreams enter, veins where memory flows.

• With the color-dreams of Chagall and the spiritual geometries of Kandinsky, I recovered the passionate, questioning voice of my Western soul. Impressionism always attracted me, the Masters of Light, and I started to merge these ideas into my work.

• With my own ideas and hands, I wield technology as my brush. AI is a great gift for my synoptic mind, it helps me to condense information in a glimpse of time which I could not have done in a whole lifetime before. Algorithms became my ink. Archival Giclee prints transport the beauty of creation and imperfection to my audience. 3D printers became my loom. I tweak and guide them for days — not as a coder, but as an alchemist, patiently distilling inspiration from the infinite until it condenses into unique, tangible form.

This is the great fusion: my past as an engineer giving disciplined structure to my soul's poetry. The "winter" of rigid logic melts, watering the "spring" of unbound creativity.

The Brand Philosophy: 赋生维艺®

赋生 (Fùshēng): To endow with life, poetic revitalization
维艺 (Wéiyì): To uphold the artistic essence, the continuum of craft

赋生维艺 means "giving life to art, weaving spirit into form." It is the philosophy behind everything I create: that art is not merely made, but breathed into being — that each piece carries not just image, but spirit, memory, and the wandering mind behind it.

The Work

Crackled Dreams: Nine Fragments of a Wandering Mind (Example)

A series born from this journey. Each piece is a bridge between worlds — the bold, explicit forms of Ming Dynasty blue-and-white meet the crackled soul of Song Dynasty aesthetics, where imperfection becomes beauty and silence speaks. Guided by the dreamlike spirit of Chagall, East meets West. History meets the present.

Presented in the format of cultural relic tiles — squared, contained, precious. Like fragments excavated from time itself, they invite the viewer to hold history in their hands while dreaming into the future.

The Offering

This is my offered harmony. More than a story told in glaze and light, it is an invitation to resonate with a journey of insight and integration.

For the discerning collector who seeks not just decoration but profound statement.
For the visionary interior artist crafting spaces with soul.
For anyone who understands that the deepest warmth is forged in the acknowledgment of cold — that the most enduring creations arise from the marriage of mountain and river, and that the most beautiful springs are built from the quiet, grateful lessons of winter.
Imperfection as the ultimate beauty.

Art is what it is, not what it's supposed to be.
Art is the echo of the subconscious mind.
You bring endless possibilities into one dedicated creation.

When you finish something and feel it's not yet done — just then you enter something massive. A finished piece that raises no concerns may just be "safe". Each piece becomes seeds for the next, shrinking endless possibilities into reality. Thought becomes matter. Inspiration creates form.

What you narrow down to one thing it starts to expand again at your audience.

Where I Stand Now

I am no longer running.

I am rooted in Yunnan — immersed in the magic landscape, the local history, the soul of the land. My days are Tai Chi in morning light, hours in the studio, the support of my family, the inspiration of this place that has welcomed and nourished me.

This rooting is a deep dive: into the form language of Ming and Song Dynasty painting, into the spiritual resonance of Chinese cultural heritage, into the soil and stories of Yunnan itself. From this immersion, something new emerges — a fusion that could only be born from someone who has crossed oceans and chosen to stay.

I seek not imitation, but resonance. Not reproduction, but synergy. Not fleeting trends, but sustainability — art that carries meaning across time, across cultures, across the inner and outer worlds.

Welcome to my studio in the city of the eternal spring.

This is my grateful offering, from my journey to yours.

裂纹不是破碎的痕迹
Crackle is not the mark of breaking
它们是心游走的地方
It is where the mind wanders
是蓝呼吸的方式
It is how blue breathes
是古老与新生的相遇处
It is where the ancient meets the new
