Where Stillness Learns to Breathe
In Chinese culture, bamboo is more than a plant. It is a quiet portrait of character: resilient in the wind, upright in its growth, and open at its heart.
The bamboo bends, but it does not break. Its firm joints suggest integrity, while its hollow center—known as xuxin, or “an open heart”—speaks of humility, curiosity, and the space to receive wisdom.
Here, indigo and teal stalks rise through a field of warm cream and rice-paper light. Gold catches briefly on the leaves, like a thought arriving. The composition holds the moment before movement: the hush before the chime, the breath before the wind.
On the right, space gathers rather than disappears. It leaves room for the eye to rest and the mind to wander. This is not simply a painting of bamboo. It is an invitation to remain flexible, rooted, and open — to feel the wind even when nothing seems to move.
May it bring a little stillness into your space.
